In April Curvebender Publishing releases a lavish three-volume book project, made with the participation of Compofactur – Matthias Spindler.
George Martin: The Scores
The book edition pays tribute to the late Sir George Martin CBE on the occasion of his centenary. Many of his musical manuscripts are reproduced here for the first time as facsimiles (e.g. arrangements of Beatles songs such as Strawberry Fields Forever, A Day in the Life, Here Comes the Sun, and Yesterday) and are accompanied by detailed commentary. The authors, Kevin Ryan and Brian Kehew, carried out over ten years of research in close collaboration with George Martin until his death in 2016.
In addition to a foreword by Sir Paul McCartney, the book set features contributions from Giles Martin, Wendy Carlos, Danny Elfman and Stewart Copeland.
The edition also includes exclusive audio content. To this end, a number of Sir George’s scores have been re-recorded at Abbey Road Studio Two. Buyers will receive individual multi-track session files so that they can study the arrangements separately or remix them.
Matthias Spindler was involved in this project as a consultant, recording supervisor (for sessions conducted by Craig Leon), music engraver (in some cases in collaboration with Craig Leon) and proofreader. Many people served as consultants on this project, including Craig Leon, Suzanne Clark, and many others.
My thanks go to the following people, who supported my work very much: Brian Kehew, Craig Leon, Giles Martin, Sam Okell, Kevin Ryan, Adam Sharp, Jacqueline ›Jackie‹ Shave, and Cassell Webb Leon.
